Greg (Thomas Mann) is a senior in High School. He is an observer. He interacts with all of the different cliques in school on a daily basis but doesn't really fit in anywhere or have any friends. Except Earl (RJ Cyler). He and Earl spend all of their free time making crazy parodies of classic films. "A Sockwork Orange" and "The Seven Seals" (about seals) are movies that they have produced. Everything changes when a girl in their class, Rachel (Olivia Cooke) is diagnosed with Leukemia and Greg's mother (Connie Britton) thinks he should spend time with her. They begin a tentative friendship that is sweet and melancholy and darkly funny. She starts to bring him out of his shell and he makes her smile, even on her toughest days. Together they confront her terminal illness and help each other face what the future might bring.

I loved this movie. It is really quite funny, even in the face of tragedy. The three leads are all great actors. Earl is a stand out. We all laughed and cried. The movie parodies were hilarious and the adult actors (Connie Britton, Molly Shannon, Nick Offerman and Jon Bernthal) were perfectly cast. This was a very funny movie about a serious subject. Definitely worth seeing so go see it!
