In this sequel, the Gladers have escaped the Maze only to discover that theirs was not the only Maze. Now, they are together with lots of others who were in mazes, as well. Thomas (Dylan O'Brien) the defacto leader of his group now wants to know more about WCKD, the mysterious organization that put them in the mazes to begin with. He leads a team out into the scorch and meets up with a group of resistance fighters. Together they take on the much superior forces of WCKD and work to discover what WCKD ultimately has in store for them.

I liked the original Maze Runner movie. I liked the characters and the mystery. The same characters are still compelling and the new characters are interesting, as well. And, these are some good actors: Patricia Clarkson, Barry Pepper, Giancarlo Esposito, Lily Taylor and Aiden Gillen. Plenty of talent to go around. But, I felt like this movie only slightly moved the story forward and seemed almost like a placeholder for the third and final installment. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. So, if you loved the first one, you will want to see this one to keep up with the story. Otherwise, this picks up right after the first one with no explanatory catch-up or anything so you might skip it and watch the trilogy all together when it is on DVD.
