Jill's Review

Opens September 30, 2016

Runs 94 minutes

This film is based on the actual 1997 Loomis Fargo robbery which turned out to be one of the largest bank heists in U.S history. David Ghantt (Zach Galifianakis) is a boring guy who drives an armored car. Every day he loads the car, delivers the money and heads back to do it again. The only excitement in his life is his crush on his co-worker Kelly (Kristen Wiig). And, because of this she is able to lure him to pull off the impossible. Not only does he rob Loomis, but then he turns the money over to a group of double-crossers led by Steve (Owen Wilson) who plan to kill him once the heist is over and he is in Mexico. How he manages to pull this off and elude authorities is a story for the ages.

The actual story behind the movie is almost impossible to believe. How David Ghantt was able to steal $17 million dollars and actually get away to Mexico is beyond belief. I will say the airport security scene is a hoot because security in 1997 looks nothing like it does today. But, the movie is played for over-the-top laughs and it just isn't funny. There is so much talent in this film with Zach, Kristen, Owen and even Jason Sudeikis as the hit man. It just sounds funny. It really isn't. It makes you cringe more than anything. The Husband said it was the worst movie he's seen all year. Well, he didn't see Fifty Shades of Black or Brothers Grimsby but it is close. Great story that was turned into a farce. You can skip this one.
