Gabriel Drummer (Shia LaBeouf) and Devin Roberts (Jai Courtney) are best friends who grew up together. They decide to enlist in the Marines together, too. Soon they are deployed to Afghanistan. Only War is not like boot camp. The only thing keeping Gabriel going is his desire to return back home to his wife Natalie (Kate Mara) and his son John (Charlie Shotwell). After an "incident" in Afghanistan, Gabriel is finally sent home. Only, home is no better than the the front line as Gabriel must go on a search for his wife and son in a strange and dangerous America.

This movie is hard to describe. We hadn't even seen a preview so we had no pre-conceived ideas about this film. The plot uses time, as in the past, present and future as a plot device. The real bang comes when the timelines intersect. You will probably figure out where it is headed but it is worth watching to see how it all turns out. Basically, War is not pretty. The acting is great. Whether you like him or not, Shia LaBeouf is still a good actor and he does a great job in this film. Jai Courtney and Kate Mara are good, too. But, the kid that plays Shia's son is just fabulous. He is the real deal. The Husband and I really liked this little film. If you are looking for something a little different, you might check this one out.
