This is the film based on the classic Shakespearean tragedy. Michael Fassbender is Macbeth, a Thane of Scotland and Marion Cotillard is his wife. When Macbeth is visited by three witches on the battlefield who proclaim to him that he will become King of Scotland, he takes the prophesy to heart and together with his wife, kills the current King Duncan (David Thewlis). As he assumes the throne, he also begins to succumb to madness and paranoia which ultilmately leads to the loss of everyone he holds dear and his eventual downfall.

This movie is well-cast, well-acted and stunningly filmed. But, it is still Shakespeare and it is spoken in true Shakespearean dialogue. It is not an easy film to love. It is violent and tragic. Most of us know the story so it isn't that hard to follow. But, if you aren't familiar with this tragedy, then you might be left out in the cold just a little. If you love Macbeth, then this is a must-see just for the acting alone. Otherwise, this might be just a little too arty and you might want to skip it.
