Maggie (Diana Silvers) and her mom Erica (Juliette Lewis) have moved back to Erica's hometown for a fresh start. Maggie meets some kids at school and before you know it, she is friends with the popular party crowd. One night, they head into town to try to score some beer. No one wants to buy them any until they convince Sue Ann (Octavia Spencer) to help them out. Soon, she invites them to come home with her and encourages them to party in her basement. But, the teen partygoers only seem to dredge up bad high school memories for Sue Ann, or "Ma" as the kids call her. Ma is just a little bonkers and the kids begin to question whether it is a good idea to hang out in Ma's basement. Unfortunately, they realize that just a little too late.

This movie could have been good. Octavia Spencer gives her all as a crazy lady. She is definitely bonkers. But, the rest of the movie is just a teen party movie with very few scary scenes. After the first night in the basement, these kids would have stayed away from Ma for good. I don't think kids are this stupid. So, I was disappointed. I like horror films. I like tension and suspense. This movie didn't really have any. You knew where it was headed almost from the very beginning. There was one small twist but it really didn't land much impact. So, overall just an average scary film with one great crazy performance by Octavia Spencer. I would probably skip it. Go see Greta if you want to see a good scary film.
