Jill's Review

Opens Septmber 21, 2018

Runs 88 minutes

Using audiotapes, diaries, home movies and interviews with friends and loved ones, this movie tells the story of Gilda Radner from chubby young girl to full-fledged comedienne. Gilda was insecure as a youngster and often used humor to help her cope. As an adult, this humor was recognized when she became one of the first cast members on Saturday Night Live. From her short first marriage to her "true love" Gene Wilder, the movie follows Gilda as she becomes a household name. And, as she tragically succumbs to cancer at the age of 42.

This is a very good documentary, especially if you were a fan of Gilda Radner. Gilda was a chubby child and this was a source of tension with her mother. In later life, Gilda battled eating disorders. These are the kinds of things that come out in the documentary. As well as a lot of her crazy humor. Guest stars like Bill Hader, Melissa McCarthy and Amy Poehler, who went on to follow her on SNL, read parts of her diaries and reminisce about how she led the way for female comediennes. This is a fascinating look into Gilda's life and definitely worth watching. So go see it.
