Gene (Gabriel Byrne) is father to Jonah (Jesse Eisenberg) and Conrad (Devin Druid). Wife and Mother Isabelle (Isabelle Huppert) was a famed war photographer who passed away three years ago. Father and sons are forced to confront their feelings about Isabelle as Richard (David Strathairn) prepares to write an article for the New York Times to appear along with a retrospective of her photographs. As it turns out all of the men in Isabelle's life are still dealing with their grief and the circumstances of her death. They struggle to connect with each other and face the damage she left in her wake.

I didn't love this film. I thought it was ultimately too brooding. Nothing much happens. And there is no real explanariron for why Gene, Jonah and Conrad have such a difficult time talking to each other. I get it that they are still messed up by the circumstances of their wife/mother's death but it seems to have drug them all into a state of somnambulance. They all just get by but don't seem in touch with their lives or other people. It seems that enough time has passed that they should be further along the road to healing. Especially Conrad. His actions didn't really make sense to me. The acting overall was good. The story was interesting, just very slow and deliberate. So, average film. See it if you love the cast. Otherwise, skip it.
