Runs 109 Minutes

Will (Ben Foster) and his thirteen year-old daughter Tom (Thomasin McKenzie) have lived off the grid for years. Currently, they live in an Oregon State Park, camping, cooking and going into town when necessary. Their lives take a serious turn when the police arrest them for trespassing. As they say, it is not against the law to be unhomed but it is agaist the law to live in the park. After a series of psychological testing, the pair are reunited and sent to live on a Christmas Tree farm. Will struggles to adapt to living under someone else's rules while Tom starts to blossom. She soon realizes that she likes other people and might want to be involved in a community while Will counts down the days until they can escape back to living in the wild. It soon becomes apparent that no matter how much they love each other and how tight the Father/Daughter bond is, they might be on different paths.

I LOVED this movie. It is a little slow and deliberate but the payoff is worth every second. Will and hIs daughter have a bond that cannot be severed. Ben Foster and Thomasin McKenzie bring their roles to life on the screen. The film is directed by Debra Granik, who directed Jennifer Lawrence in Winter's Bone. Thomasin might just be the next Jennifer Lawrence. She is fantastic. Her face reveals everything she is thinking. You just want to take her in and give her a hug. And, Ben Foster is so good as the stoic Father who just wants to take care of his daughter and be left alone. This movie is rated PG. It is fine for the whole family. There are moments of peril but nothing inappropriate. I highly recommend that you go see this film. It is so good!!
