Runs 108 minutes

This is the story of Lyndon Baines Johnson (Woody Harrelson). The film follows him from his younger days as a Senator from Texas, to the Vice Presidency and finally to the day he was sworn in as the 36th President of the United States upon the assassination of JFK (Jeffrey Donovan). LBJ had always longed to be President but not in the way in which it happened. He was forced to deal with the Nation's sorrow as they mourned the loss of their beloved JFK. But, he believed in action. He worked tirelessly, drawing votes from across the aisle to pass the historic Civil Rights Act. He also had a hand in passing Medicare and Medicaid. Eventually, the Vietnam War was his downfall and he chose not to run for re-election in 1968. Overall, an intiguing look at the 36th President.

The Husband and I liked this movie. The cast was stellar, particularly Woody Harrelson. He was LBJ. Jennifer Jason Leigh as Lady Bird was perfect. The Kennedy accents were great. It was really interesting watching LBJ address Congress and look out at that sea of white men. No women or people of color in sight. An interesting time. This film was funny, poignant and informative. And, very entertaining. If you are tired of loud action films, then this might be just what you are looking for. It is rated R but mainly for historical language. Fine for most people. Go see it!
