Runs 120 minutes

At the end of the Vietnam War, Bill Randa (John Goodman) has secured funding to investigate an uncharted island before the Soviets get wind of it. He requests a military escort and is assigned Preston Packard (Samuel L. Jackson) and his squadron to get him on and off the island safely. They hire tracker James Conrad (Tom HIddleston) to lead the way and war photographer Mason Weaver (Brie Larson) tags along. Of course, Randa has ulterior motives for trekking to this prehistoric land. Everyone else is just excited to visit "Skull" island. That is until they run into the mighty Kong, guardian of the island. He is not too happy to have these aliens invade his island. And, when they set off bombs to measure the seismic activity, it awakens forces that even Kong may not be able to control. Now, everyone is fighting for survival, hoping to make it off the island alive.

This movie was much better than I anticipated. I expected cheesy but got fascinating and entertaining. There was plenty of action but also a lot of humor and emotion. Kong was a fantastic beast. And, the other creatures were pretty good, too. The cast was exceptionally strong. John C. Reilly was a hoot and Samuel L. Jackson was a hard-nosed soldier, slowly getting angrier and angrier. I also liked seeing Tom Hiddleston tanned and in-charge. You can see why Taylor Swift had a crush on him. This is a very violent movie, with lots of gruesome deaths. (Don't take the little kids.) There is a large cast and a lot of them do not make it until the end of the film. Be prepared for a lot of violence and one icky, giant spider. Yuck! I thought the post-war setting added gravitas to the film and they were very true to the time period. Make sure you stay until the end of the credits for one final scene. Can you say sequel? This is a pretty good film. Go see it.
