Jill's Review

Opens March 11, 2016
Runs 118 minutes
Rick (Christian Bale) reflects on his life and past relationships with former wives (Cate Blanchette), former girlfriends (Teresa Palmer) and former married lovers (Natalie Portman), among others. He also reflects on his fractured relationship with his Father (Brian Dennehy) and how that affected his feelings of life, love and loss.
I did not like this movie. It is directed by Terrence Malick and his movies are generally "love them or hate them". This almost seemed like a continuation of his Tree of Life movie with narrated voice overs, hushed conversations and litte dialogue. Oh, and no plot. Half of the time Christian Bale is wandering around, sometimes on the beach, sometimes who knows where. This is not a linear story - it is more reflections on Rick's past. There are flashbacks but nothing is explained or clear. Very existential and meandering. Definitely not my favorite. Skip it!
