Unbeknownst to him, as a young child, Arthur (Charlie Hunnam) is sent down the river in a skiff and robbed of his birthright. He grows up in a brothel, fighting and scamming to make a buck. When all of the eligible men of a certain age are called to the castle, he is forced to go along. When he is able to pull a sword from solid stone, he immediately becomes the target of King Vortigern (Jude Law). It seems that Vortigern is actually his uncle and wants him dead. He is not about to give up the throne. Arthur wants nothing to do with the royal life but the oppressed people have other ideas. Together with his friends and with the help of the mystical Mage (Astrid Berges-Frisbey), Arthur must fight his evil uncle and re-take the throne to bring peace back to the kingdom.

This movie is not a bad summer popcorn movie. It is all Guy Ritchie, who directed it. It is dark and there are all kinds of slow-mo action sequences and montages. Everything works ok. It is just a little long. The beginning and ending are pretty good. The middle slogs along a little too long. Charlie Hunnam does a fine job and looks great - he is in great shape. Jude Law makes a great evil villian. There is a very large cast and everyone is fine. There is a lot going on and some of the mystical elements are a little weird. But, it is fine for most older kids. There is some language but it is minor for a Guy Ritchie film. Don't expect too much and you might have a decent time.
