Jane Hammond (Natalie Portman) has had a tough life. She traveled west with her daughter in difficult conditions. She was misled and abused by the Bishop Boys gang headed by their ruthless leader Coiin (Ewan McGregor) and now she just wants to live out a quiet life with her husband Bill "Ham" Hammond (Noah Emmerich). However, the Bishop Boys still hold a grudge and attack her husband. He stumbles home badly wounded. She is forced to turn to her ex-fiance Dan Frost (Joel Edgerton) to help her protect those she loves the most. Old memories and feelings long ago buried begin to surface as she and Dan battle for their very survival.

I liked this movie. It is a western, a thriller and a love story. Slowly, via flashback you learn Jane's backstory and you really begin to root for her. There is a lot of violence but this is a shoot 'em up kind of movie, afterall. The Husband liked it, too. He isn't a big western fan, but even though this was set in the west it was more of a thriller/action type film. Great cast. Not bad for a matinee on a cold winter day.
