Runs 90 minutes

This is the story of Jane Goodall, the renowned primatologist. Taken from 100's of newly released hours of actual footage, this shows the young Jane as she heads to the Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania to live among the chimpanzees. At the time, she was a secretary and she was hired because she would have no pre-conceived ideas about the primates she was to study. In the 1960's, it was unheard of for a woman to head into the wilds alone, so her mother actually went with her in the beginning. The film follows her as she gains the trust of the chimpanzees and begins to learn their routines, heirarchy and their funny foibles. She eventually marries and has a child in Tanzania. She goes on to be the leading expert on primates in the wild and a leading animal rights activist.

This is a fascinating film because it is all taken from actual footage. We follow Jane from the beginning, when she is still a young woman. We see her as she gains the trust of the chipmanzees, falls in love and has a child of her own. The film is interspersed with actual interviews with Jane today as she explains some of what she went through and what she was thinking at the time. A very eye-opening documentary. Perfect for the animal lover. Highly recommended. Go see it.
