This movie is modern mash up of several Fairy Tales put to music. A Baker (James Corden) and his wife (Emily Blunt) are sent to procure various items for an evil witch (Meryl Streep) so she will reverse a horrible spell that was put on them. As they head "into the woods" to procure the items, they run into characters from Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Jack in the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood and even Rapunzel. No one wants to be in the woods for long because that is where the big, bad wolf (Johnny Depp) lives along with other kinds of danger. Will the baker and his wife find the items in time to reverse the curse or will they never make it out of the woods?
I had seen the Broadway version of this musical so I kind of knew what to expect. The singing is fantastic. Who knew Emily Blunt and Chris Pine (Prince Charming) had such good voices? And, of course, Meryl Streep is fabulous. Overall, I thought the movie was just a little dark. It is rated PG but there are evil things that happen in the woods. I gave it a higher rating just based on the talent of everyone in the movie. Go see it for that reason alone!
