Ingrid (Aubrey Plaza) has a very loose grip on reality. To her, friends on social media are real friends. This leads to a confrontation with a "friend" when Ingrid realizes that she was excluded from the friend's wedding. That leads to some alone time in the psych ward. After her release, Ingrid finds a new obsession and decides to move to California to become best friends with Taylor Sloane (Elizabeth Olsen), an Instagram "It Girl". She stalks Taylor, likes all of her posts and eventually, kidnaps her dog. When she returns the dog, she is "in". But, she soon realizes that even the most popular people on social media may not be all that that appear to be online.

This is definitely an odd comedy. The Husband hated it but I really liked it. I thought Aubrey Plaza was really good. She was funny, desperate, sad, clinging and pathetic. She made you cringe as her character did things that were just outside the norm. Elizabeth Olsen was sunny, happy and beautiful. O'Shea Jackson, Jr. was pretty funny as Ingrid's landlord/boyfriend. The movie takes a hard look at social media and how people really do live in an alternate reality when all they look at is Instagram or Facebook. I thought the movie was funny but pretty dark. More like a dramedy. If you like indie films that are quirky and a little different, then this might be for you. Go see it.
