Runs 80 minutes

In 1960's Poland, a young, orphaned girl, Ida (Agata Trzebuchowska) is about to take her vows into the convent where she was raised when she learns that her parents had been Jewish and were killed during the Holocaust. She is told that she has one remaining relative, an aunt Wanda (Agata Kulesza) and is encourged to meet her before she takes her vows. The ensuing meeting leads to a journey of self-discovery that may change the course of her life.

This is a very quiet movie. The picure is filmed in black and white and the landscape is harsh and unforgiving. In 1960, there was no internet, so Ida (whose birth name was Anna) and her aunt Wanda are forced to trace her parents back through actual people who are still carrying the burdens of what happened during the Holocaust. This becomes almost a detective story.  Will Ida take her vows or will she return to being the Anna of her birth and move into the outside world. This is not a flashy movie and it moves very deliberately. If you like little gems, this is for you.
