This is a movie about Tonya Harding (Margot Robbie), the disgraced American Figure Skater. It is told in mockumentary style, based on actual interviews with Tonya and her ex-husband Jeff Gillooly (Sebastian Stan). And, sometimes Tonya and Jeff do not see eye-to-eye on what really happened leading up to "the Incident" with Nancy Kerrigan. Tonya's mother LaVona Golden (Allison Janney) adds an even different perspective on Tonya's unbringing. All of this builds up to the attack on Nancy Kerrigan prior to the Olympics. Whether you think Tonya was involved from the beginning or was an innocent bystander to "the Incident", you can't help but feel a little sorry for Tonya and the abusive upbringing and marriage she endured. By the end, you might even have more sympathy for Tonya than you ever expected.

This is a great movie. The Husband, Nacho Kim and I all loved it. It is funny and irreverent, with hilarious comments, sometimes made directly to the audience. Tonya had a diificult upbringing. I never knew that she came from such a difficult situation. She always made the best of things and never backed down. That was often an issue in the world of the white collar princesses who competed in figure skating. This movie is hilarious and eye-opening. Everyone seems to remember "the incident" (when Nancy Kerrigan was knee-capped prior to the Olympics) but the rest of the story was a revelation. This movie is funny, cringe-inducing and satirical. It will make you laugh out loud and feel sorry for Tonya Harding at the same time. I loved it. Go see it.
