This is the inspiring, true story behind the mega-hit Christian song I Can Only Imagine by MercyMe. The movie follows Bart (Brody Rose/J. Michael Finley) as he grows up in an abusive family. His father Arthur (Dennis Quaid) was a monster. Bart's mother left the family when he was a child. Bart tried to please his father by playing football but sustained a career ending injury. After that, Arthur really had no time for him. When Bart is cast in the school musical, he feels he has finally found his calling. Bart decides to pursue music and heads out to the big city with his father's derison ringing in his ears. He joins a band and they tour. They play for youth retreats and churches. They even get a manager, Brickell (Trace Adkins) but no one seems interested in signing them to to a record label. That is until Bart wrties I Can Only Imagine. And, the rest is history.

This is such an uplifting and inspiring story of love, forgiveness and redemption. Bart had such a difficult life but he always maintained his faith. By God's grace he was able to reconcile with his father, who had become a devoted Christian himself just prior to his death. I loved learning the story behnd the band's name and the inspiration for the song. The fact that Bart wrote it for his father will bring you to tears. The Husband and I loved this movie and highly recommend it for the whole family. The final performance of the song will have you singing yourself out of the theatre. Now, go see it!!
