This is the incredible true story of a trio of African American women who rose within the ranks of NASA during the Civil Rights Era. Originally assigned to the Negro Computing Room, Katherine G. Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monae) went on to become the "Human Computers" behind John Glenn's launch into orbit and his eventual safe return. Racing against the Russians to be the first to put a man in space, these women broke gender and color barriers with their brilliance and professionalism as they woked alongside some of the smartest mathematicians and engineers in America. They went on to become true pioneers and genuine American Heroes.

I loved this movie. I had never heard about these women before. It was fascinating to see them face both gender and color barriers. There were still negro bathrooms and water fountains. Taraji's character had to race to a whole different building to use the proper facilities. But, these women used their intelligence to get their places at the table. They were smart and capable. They played by the rules but also spoke their minds. Kevin Costner was great as the head of the whole project. He had little time for games - he only cared if you could get the job done. Such a fascinating story. Perfect for the whole family. Go see it!!
