A young English couple, Gemma (Gemma Arterton) and Charlie (Jason Flemyng) move to a farmhouse in the French countryside. Their neighbor Martin (Fabrice Luchini) takes an immediate interest in them because their name is Bovery and they have moved to the same town as Flaubert, who wrote the iconic novel Madame Bovary. Martin is the town baker and he becomes friends with Gemma. Maybe he is even a little in love with her. But, she is bored in the countryside and soon strays with another neighbor's son who is home for the summer. Will she find her way back to Charlie or will she end in the same dramatic fashion as Madame Bovary in the novel?

I liked this movie. It is a typical French farce. Fabrice Luchini is hilarious as the nosy neighbor. Gemma Arterton is earthy and beautiful. I had read the novel Madame Bovary in High School and the movie kept me guessing as to whether it would follow in the novel's footsteps or not. It was fun and entertaining with a little drama thrown in for good measure. I say go see it.
