Jill's Review

Opens April 6, 2017

Runs 93 minutes

Heather Anderson (Zoe Kravitz) is an actress who is going through a rough patch. She is tired of being a "celebrity". She doesn't really feel like filming her new movie or even doing re-shoots for her past film. She makes her best friend/personal assistant Jill (Lola Kirke) meet with her producer and tell him she isn't doing his film. She breaks up with her boyfriend and angers her agent. All of these people are ready to kill her. Then, one morning Jill finds her body on the floor of her house shot five times. It seems that Jill becomes suspect number one and must elude authorities while she tries to figure out what really happened. What she discovers rocks her world and tests her ideas of friendship and celebrity.

The Husband and I thought this was a decent film. It definitely kept our interest and the performances were fine. All of the write-ups talk a lot about L.A. as the backdrop and the film noir feel of the film. I guess there was some of that. But, it really seemed like a straightforward mystery/thriller to us. That is until the unsatisfying end. There was an unexpected twist, but that twist also leaves you feeling a little duped. So, this isn't a bad film. It is just a little disappointing. Maybe see a matinee or wait to watch it on late night cable.
