This is the Bibiical tale of the book of Exodus as interpreted by Hollywood. Christian Bale is Moses and Joel Edgerton is Ramses, raised together as brothers in the palace of the Pharoah but becoming eventual enemies when Moses's Hebrew identity is revealed.  Eventually, Moses is directed by God (shown as a young boy for some reason) to rise up against the Pharoah and lead the slaves out of slavery and into the Promised Land.

Trainer Joe, the Husband and I were all looking forward to seeing Exodus. We were all disappointed. This movie is epic in proportion. There are battles and there are plagues. The good points include the fact that God is mentioned and followed. Moses does come to realize that he was meant to lead the Israelites out of slavery. And, he is shown with the Ten Commandments at the end of the movie (although, I never envisioned him hand carving them himself - interesting). The questionable points include Hollywood's interpretations of God as a little boy???? and the first plague that turns the water to blood caused by giant alligators??? to name a couple. The husband turned to me and asked "was the first plague alligators? I don't remember that. Ha!".  So, the movie was a mixed bag. I would still say try to see it. As Trainer Joe said, at least Hollywood tried to give us a Biblical movie. Maybe that is what we need to support. So, re-read Exodus and then go see the movie. That way you can just enjoy the Hollywood experience with the real story fresh in your mind.
