Caleb (Domhnall Gleeson) is a computer programmer at a large internet company. He wins a week-long retreat with Nathan (Oscar Isaac) the company's reclusive CEO at his huge estate out in the country. Once he arrives, he realizes that Nathan wants him to test the Artificial Intelligence (AI) system that he has developed. The catch is that he has put this system into the body of a beautiful womanbot named Ava (Alicia Vikander). As Caleb spends time with Ava, he is amazed at the level of AI that Nathan has developed. In the evenings, he and Nathan drink a lot and have philosophical discussions about AI, while Nathan's girlfriend Kyoko (Sonoya Mizuno) hangs around mostly serving as eye candy. Soon, Caleb begins to question the true reason he has been selected to perform this task. And, Ava begins to question Caleb. She is pretty smart for a robot and Caleb is slowly falling under her spell. How will this week end? And, will Caleb still feel the same about AI once it is over?

This is a very inventive movie. The whole movie takes place in Nathan's compound and there are only four actors, but it is fascinating and very smart. It has all kinds of twists and turns. I really wasn't sure where this one was headed for a good part of this movie. Once I figured out what was going on, I was still surprised. This is definitely a science fiction movie. But, it also has moments of a really good psychological horror movie. If you are looking for something really intelligent and different, then I would highly recommend this one.
