Runs 133 minutes

Laura (Penelope Cruz) and her children Irene (Carla Campra) and Diego (Ivan Chavero) return home to the countryside of Madrid to attend her sister's wedding. Laura's husband Alejandro (Ricardo Darin) remains behind in Buenos Aires for work reasons. Upon arrival, she runs into old flame Paco (Javier Bardem) and his wife. The visit is enjoyable until Irene is kidnapped during the wedding and held for a very high ransom. As Laura tries to navigate getting her daughter back, her husband flies in to be by her side. However, the whole situation resurfaces old jealousy and bitterness which leads to finger-pointing and issues of trust between families, friends and even husbands and wives. Who can you really trust?

This was a great movie. Seeing Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem (a real-life couple) act in their native language is such a pleasure. They are both so good in this film. The movie is subtitled but you forget you are even reading as you become so engrossed in what is taking place. It keeps you guessing and wondering the whole time. At one point, after a big revelation, the woman in front of us said "I knew it" out loud. You just get so involved! The acting is top notch and the plotting keeps you on the edge of your seat. The movie resolves but it still leaves you wondering about a lot of things and how you might have handled the whole situation. A great film. Go see it.
