Runs 121 minutes

It's May 10, 1996 and guides Rob Hall (Jason Clarke) and Scott Fischer (Jake Gyllenhaal) have joined forces to make the final ascent to the top of Everest with their teams of climbers. Some are experienced and some are just out to prove something to themselves. There is Dr. Beck Weathers (Josh Brolin), Doug Hansen (John Hawkes) a mailman on his second attempt, Jon Krakauer (Michael Kelly), an author and even a women who has climbed all of the tallest peaks and Everest is her last - Yasuko Namba (Naoko Mori), among others. Most of the climbers have reached the top and are headed back down when a catastrophic storm suddenly hits the climbers. They must fight gusting winds, flying ice and freezing cold temperatures as they struggle to make it back to the safety of base camp. This becomes an epic battle of man vs. nature and not all of the climbers will live to climb again.

This movie depicts a very harrowing experience for all involved. Filmed in 3D IMAX, it is like re-living the experience yourself. The filmmakers do a tremendous job of capturing this climb - definitely an amazing feat of capturing this mountain. In the calm sunlight, Everest is a stark and beautiful mountain. Once the weather turns, it is an unforgiving, brutal and dangerous place. I remember when this happened but I could not remember the fate of all involved. You get to know these characters and you feel their pain and sorrow when not everyone makes it back. I would never want to do this myself, but you have to admire the grit and determination of all involved. I really liked this movie. Go see it!
