El Angel is based on the true story of Carlos Robledo Puch (Lorenzo Ferro), a baby-faced criminal and serial killer who is currently serving the longest prison sentence in Argentine history. As a teenager, Carlos enjoyed breaking and entering other people's homes, eating their food, drinking their drinks, listening to their music and then stealing from them. At school, he meets Ramon (Chino Darin) a dashing bad boy. Carlos sets out to impress him and eventually they begin a crime spree that escalates from petty theft, to armed robbery, to murder until Carlos is finally caught. Because of his baby-faced good looks, he is dubbed "the Angel of Death" by the newspapers. But, don't let his good looks fool you. He was a hardened criminal before he turned 20 and is now serving a life sentence in prison.

This is Argentina's official submission for the 2018 Oscars. It is a pretty good film. Lorenzo Ferro, who plays Puch is a baby-faced actor with curly hair and a sweet smile. He does a great job. You get sucked into liking this guy until you realize there is something really wrong with him. Wow, he was a wacko. He would never get away with all of these crimes today, but in 1970's Argentina, he was a walking crime spree. A fascinating film. Apparently, it was very toned down - his crimes were much worse than depicted and those depicted were pretty bad. If you like crime dramas based on true stories, then this might be for you. Go see it.
