Winter, the dolphin with the prosthetic tail, is still the main draw for the Clearwater Marine Hospital and Aquarium. When she loses her companion dolphin, Dr. Clay Haskett (Harry Connick, Jr.) is under pressure to transfer her to a larger facility where she can be paired with a female companion. Sawyer (Nathan Gamble) and Hazel (Cozi Zuehlsdorff) (both from the original movie) are heartbroken that they may lose Winter, who they have trained and befriended since she was rescued. Sawyer is also under pressure because he has been accepted to a prestigious Semester at Sea where he will study marine life and earn college credit. Can he leave Winter at this crucial time? Will they be able to find her a companion before it is too late?
This is a great family film. If you liked the first one, then you will like this one. The dolphins are amazing and some of the underwater filming is just incredible. It really seems that these dolphins form relationships with the humans that train them, even though the movie is careful to continually stress that they are wild animals and that the ultimate goal is Rescue, Rehab, Release. I love animals so I knew I would love this movie. It is inspirational and educational. You can't help but be moved by the plight of Winter and all that she has been through. If you are an animal lover like me, go see this and take the whole family!
