This is a historical drama about the relationship between Dietrich von Choltitz, the German in charge of occupied Paris during World War II and the Swedish diplomat Raoul Nordling. The war is turning in the Allies favor and soon the Germans will be driven from Paris. Dietrich has been ordered to destroy all of Paris's prominent landmarks as the Germans leave Paris. There is an elaborate plan to blow up all of the beautiful bridges, the Louvre and even the Eiffel Tower. Rauol learns of this plan and goes to Dietrich to plead the case for not destroying Paris as the Germans did Warsaw. No one knows what really happened but this movie provides one explanation for why Paris's landmarks remain standing to this day.

This is a fantastic historical drama. I didn't know very much about it before I went and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is in French and it is very well-acted. Apparently, a lot of what happened has been documented in various memoirs and publications, but the actual conversation is still somewhat speculation. All we know for sure is that Dietrich von Choltitz didn't carry out the demolition plan. If you enjoy historical movies, then this is for you.
