Runs 94 minutes

A group of immigrants have hired a coyote to take them across the Mexican border into the United States. They travel across the barren land until their truck breaks down in the "Badlands". From there, they must go on foot. Little do they know that a sniper, Sam (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and his dog Tracker are lying in wait to pick them off one by one. Will anyone survive to make it to their final destination?

This was almost a slasher flick. Jeffrey Dean Morgan has this group in his sights and plans to pick them off. A few of them (Gael Garcia Bernal, among them) have a few tricks left up their sleeves and aren't going to just give up. Then, it is a game of cat and mouse. The film is fast-paced and keeps you interested. My complaints are 1) there is no motivation for JDM's obsession with these immigrants and 2) we barely get to know the immigrants so their fates don't really matter that much. A decent thriller type movie. Plenty of action. Entertaining if you like this type of suspense. But it is tough to watch. Some of the violence is graphic. And, even though the dog is a meanie, we were constantly worried about him. I'm sure there was a political statement somewhere buried  in the film, but just go to watch JDM tear up the screen. Worth a matinee.
