Runs 107 minutes

Mike Williams (Mark Wahlberg), Jimmy Harrell (Kurt Russell) and Andrea Fleytas (Gina Rodriguez) along with other members of the Transocean Crew arrive on the Deepwater Horizon (an offshore drilling rig) for their normal three week stints. They are part of the company preparing the pipeline for the drilling crew. Once on board, they realize that the cement securing the pipeline has been poured but not tested. It appears that BP (the company running the operation) has declined to test it to save a little money and to try to move the schedule along. That turns out to be a disastrous decision as the pressure builds which leads to an explosion that kills eleven people and creates the worst oil spill in U.S. History.

This is a great movie. Based on the actual events surrounding the explosion on the Deepwater Horizon rig, the special effects in this film are amazing, But, what puts it over the top are the heroics performed by members of the crew which helped save so many people. These people didn't even think twice. They were just doing their jobs. The film does a nice job of humanizing these crew members, particularly Mike Williams as his wife (Kate Hudson) struggles to find out if he is alive or dead. What a demanding job it is to work on these offshore rigs. Awesome special effects, villians, heroes to root for, and even emotional moments make this a great action film for the end of summer. Go see it!!
