Libby Day's (Charlize Theron) mother and sisters were murdered in their beds when she was seven years old. Her brother Ben (Tye Sheridan/Corey Stoll) was arrested and convicted of the crime, partially due to her testimony. Libby is now a hard-edged and bitter woman living off of the remaining insurance money and a few book royalties. As the anniversary of the murders nears, a group of murder enthusiasts, the Kill Club headed by Lyle Wirth (Nicholas Hoult), approach her about speaking to their group. She agrees because they agree to pay her. They have an agenda - they don't think Ben is guilty and they want Libby to help them prove it. At first she balks but the more she learns, the more she begins to question herself. What really happened the night that her family was murdered?

I liked this movie. It was just mysterious enough to keep my interest. And, of course Charlize is always good in any role. The movie builds in flashbacks as we see the family struggle to get by and as Ben pulls away from the family. Christina Hendricks does a fine job as a mother at wit's end. She has a rotten ex, no money and a son who is moving to the dark side. You can feel the poverty and the desperation. If you like a good mystery, you should like this. It has some predictable moments but it still surprises you in the end. So, go see it!
