Danny Collins (Al Pacino) is a famous rock star. He has lived the wild and crazy life. Most of his concerts these days are played to elderly women and all they want to hear is his biggest hit, a song that sounds a lot like Sweet Caroline. When his agent Frank (Christopher Plummer) gives him a copy of a letter that John Lennon had written to him 40 years ago, he begins to feel that he never lived up to his potential as a songwriter. He decides to leave his concert tour and try to reconnect with his long lost son Tom (Bobby Cannavale) in the heartland of New Jersey. He decamps at the Hilton and is immediately smitten with the hotel manager (Annette Benning). She wants nothing to do with him or his lifestyle but she tries to help him reconnect with his son. It soon becomes clear that he has a lot to make up for if he wants a second chance at his family and career.

This is loosely based on a true story about a letter from John Lennon and how it stirred a singer to try to better his iife. Al Pacino is fantastic in this movie. I don't think he is a very good singer but he gives it a good attempt. He more than makes up for that with his charisma. The whole cast is so good. His "relationship" with Annette Benning is really funny and his eventual reconnection with his son and his family is very heartfelt.  I highly resommend this movie. It is funny and touching. It doesn't have a typical Hollywood ending which I really liked. Go see it!!
