Chuck Wepner (Liev Schreiber) was a heavyweight boxer from New Jersey. He was known as the Bayonne Bleeder because he was always covered in blood at the end of his fights. He moved up the ranks and eventually went toe-to-toe with Muhammad Ali. He lasted 15 rounds with Ali - the fight was called with 19 seconds left. But, that was enough to make Chuck a hero in his hometown. And, that was his claim to fame until he learned that he was the actual inspiration behind Rocky Balboa in the Rocky films. Unfortunately, the whole Rocky thing went to his head and led to his partying ways, the dissoluton of his marriage to Phyliss (Elisabeth Moss) and eventually, jail time. He came to his senses in jail, made amends with his daughter and eventually ended up with his future wife Linda (Naomi Watts). They are still together today.

What an interesting movie. The Husband and I really liked it. We did not know this story at all. It was really fascinating and a little difficult to watch. Poor Chuck had everything going for him but he just wasn't smart enough to stay off the booze, drugs and women to take advantage of his opportunities. The guy who plays Sylvester Stallone looked a lot like him and sounded just like him. He came off as a pretty nice guy. It is a little sad to see Liev and Naomi play lovers since they have broken up in real life. Overall, this was a good depiction of a boxer who let fame go to his head. Liev does a really nice job (being around all of that boxing on Ray Donovan paid off). You really like Chuck even as he makes more and more stupid decisions. It was nice to see that he and Linda are still together today and still live in Bayonne New Jersey. A very engaging movie about the man who inspired the Rocky films. Go see it.
