Agent Castillo (Michael Pena) works for the FBI in Miami. After solving a big bank heist case, he is sent undercover, assuming the name Frank "Ponch" Poncherello, to infiltrate the California Highway Patrol (CHIPS). It seems that they have some dirty cops in their midst and Ponch is sent to root them out. There he is partnered with Jon Baker (Dax Shepard, who also wrote and directed the film), a former Motocross champion with a very banged up body and an addiction to painkiilers. A string of armored car robberies point to cops on the inside and Jon and Ponch must try to work together to find the dirty cops. Hilarity and motorcycle chases ensue.

This was a typical "bro" comedy. Plenty of action and topless women (for the ladies, Dax has a few shirtless and pantless scenes, as well). The men must work together and eventually, they develop a true friendship. But, in the meantime, they act like idiots and make stupid jokes. I laughed a lot but this is definitely a low-brow comedy. There is a small cameo from the original Ponch (Erik Estrada) near the end of the film which is kind of fun. And, I thought it was hilarous that Kristen Bell (Dax Shepard's real life wife) played his estranged movie wife. Nice touch. i always like Michael Pena and I thought he was pretty funny. Average movie with lots of humor but not much substance. If you have a couple of hours to spare and need a laugh, maybe see a matinee.
