Spike Lee's new incendiary drama about gang/gun violence in Chicago (nicknamed Chi-Raq). This is a modern re-telling of the old Greek play Lysistrata, where the women withheld sex from the men in order to try to stop the violence between two warring factions.

This movie didn't look particularly appealing to me but it did have a great cast including Samuel L. Jackson, Nick Cannon (actually really good), Angela Bassett, Wesley Snipes and Jennifer Hudson, among others. I gave it a chance but I didn't really like it. I thought it was too strident. Overall, his message is correct - that there is too much gun/gang violence in Chicago leading to way to many needless deaths. But, then some of the speeches just laid it on too thick. He makes it sound like the NRA distributes guns thoughout the hood and encourages everyone to kill each other. I don't think that is a helpful argument. Anyway, the acting is good. I didn't like the rest of the movie. I'd skip it.
