In the future, robotic police forces patrol the most dangerous neighborhoods and contain the most dangerous criminals. The "human" policemen follow in their wake, out of immediate danger. One of the engineers who helped create these droids, Deon Wilson (Dev Patel), has been working on a more complete Artificial Intelligence (AI) system that would enable the droids to have feelings and make decisions. An unhappy co-worker, Vincent Moore (Hugh Jackman) feels snubbed because his larger and meaner droids, manned by actul humans are being cast aside. He sets out to sabotage Deon's work only to find out that Deon has already mastered this AI and Chappie (voiced by Sharlto Copley) is the prototype. Chappie must be stopped at all costs.

I have mixed emotions about this movie. On the one hand, it is creative and the technological creations are fantastic. It really leaves you thinking about what is in store for us in the future. Chappie was an amazing droid and the way he moved and expressed himself was a technological marvel. On the other hand, the movie forces you to root for the nasty and unredeeming criminals. This really drove me crazy. I did not like these characters but they were the "heroes" in the movie. The movie kind of creeped me out, too. I don't want to give anything away, but I thought the end was ridiculous. Anyway, if you are a fan of other Sharlto Copley films (particularly District 9) you might like this. Then again, it doesn't live up to that film in any way. See it at your own risk.
