Runs 98 minutes
This is the straight-forward and well-acted story of Cesar Chavez's struggle to organize and unionize exploited farm laborers in the 1960's. Michael Pena is Cesar Chavez, just a simple farm worker himself, America Ferrara is his wife and the mother of their eight children, Rosario Dawson plays a fellow union boss and John Malkovich is the opposition, a wealthy land owner. The movie follows Cesar as he leads pickets and boycotts, endures a hunger strike and eventually heads up a pilgrimage to bring attention to his cause.
The movie is a serviceable adaptation of the struggles that Cesar faced and the affect it had on his family and the other workers. The movie seemed to skim over some of the story, but it is still interesting and informative.
