This movie is told in three parts about different women with barely intersecting stories. The first story is about Laura Wells (Laura Dern), a small town lawyer who can't seem to convince her client (Jared Harris) that he cannot sue for workplace injuries when he has already accepted a settlement. The second story is about a married couple - Gina (Michelle Williams) and Ryan (James Le Gros) and their annoying teenage daughter. They are building a new house and are determined to buy the sandstone that has been sitting unused in their neighbor's (Rene Auberjonois) yard. The final installment is about Jamie (Lily Gladstone) a farmhand who wanders into a night school class on educational law taught by a harried Beth (Kristen Stewart). Each woman is slightly overwhelmed by the direction their lives have taken and only hope to find a small sliver of joy in their day-to-day existence.

Hmmmm. That about sums it up. This is a very deliberate film. It is straightforward, with very little overlap between the stories. All of the emotion is buried within the women. The acting is very good. You can feel each woman's discontent. But, nothing else really happens. There is no aha moment. This is just a quiet film, fairly cold, just like the Montana landscape where it is filmed. So, if you are a film buff like me, you might want to see it. Otherwise, I would see something else.
