This is up for an Oscar for Best Animated Film

This film is from Brazil and it depicts the world as seen through the eyes of a young boy. Cuca lives with his parents in the rural countryside. When his Father leaves to find employment in the big city, the young boy sets out to find him and reunite the family. Of course, he travels from the country to the city by himself. He meets various people and a dog along the way. Things are big and loud and much more complex in the city. Will the boy ever reunite with his Father and return to his quiet life in the countryside?

I wasn't in love with this film as much as the critics. It is colorful and creative and the music is almost like another character. But, there is no dialogue. It is difficult to really determine why the Father had to leave and why the boy was so determined to follow him. And, of course there is a political message about poverty, the globalization of the economy and even pollution. So, I thought it was ok. Again, it is very colorful. The animation is different than something from Pixar, but it was still interesting. I don't really like political messages in my animated films, so if you love animated films, then you might want to see it. Otherwise, skip it. Not sure what a kid would really think about this film, either.
