Mason Skiles (Jon Hamm) is a diplomat in Lebanon in 1972. At that time, Lebanon is considered the "Paris of the Middle East" -  Jews, Muslims and Christians live side by side.  That is until a terrorist act puts everyone on the defensive and leaves Mason reeling. He leaves Government service and heads back to the United States. In his absence, civil war ensues and factions form. Lebanon is a country on edge. Ten years later, still cynical, angry and drinking way too much, Mason is called out of retirement by CIA operatives. Donald Gaines (Dean Norris), Sandy Crowder (Rosamund Pike) and Gary Ruzak (Shea Whigham) enlist his aid to help rescue one of their own - Cal (Mark Pellegrino). He has been kidnapped and if he isn't recovered soon all of his secrets could put many others in danger. It appears that Mason is old friends with Cal and just might know the kidnappers, as well. Can Mason rescue Cal before it is too late?

The Husband and I really liked this movie. It is a tense, well-acted, edge of your seat thriller. You really need to pay attention to character names because later in the movie things become important that you might not have paid attention to. This is a smart movie. It isn't a true story but the background of Lebanon plays an important role in the film. Things were good until they weren't. There was a civil war that divided the country and eventually, there was an Israeli invasion. The whole movie is set against this backdrop. Jon Hamm and Rosamund Pike are both great in this film. It is fast-paced and action-packed. Definitely, a good movie. So, go see it.
