The New York City Ballet is one of the most prestigious companies in the country. They have their own costume department, lighting department and even their own orchestra. And, they have over 90 elite dancers in the company. Justin Peck is one of the Corps de Ballet dancers. He is also a promising choreographer and he was tapped to create a new ballet for the 2013 season - Ballet 422. He is one of the first dancers to also choreograph a new ballet. This film takes us backstage as he creates Paz de la Jolla from the first imaginings to the world premiere.

This was a fascinating inside look at what it takes to create a ballet from start to finish. We follow Justin as he meets with the principal dancers, the costumers, the orchestra and even the lighing technicians. The dancers are just gorgeous and it is so interesting to get to watch them in rehearsal and even trying on their costumes. My only complaint is that the film was so short. I would have liked to have seen even more of the rehearsal and interaction with the dancers and especially more of the finished ballet. But, overall the film was delightful and charming. If you are a fan of the ballet, go see it!
