Runs 118 minutes

This is the 2014 version of Annie (Quvenzhane Wallis), the cute and always positive foster child living a hard knock life with several other foster girls under the care of mean and drunk Mrs. Hannigan (Cameron Diaz). Annie is street smart and savvy and holds out hope that her parents will be coming for her soon. One day, while she is out chasing a loose dog, she is nearly run over by a truck and is saved in the nick of time by Cell-phone mogul Will Stacks (Jamie Foxx) who is also a mayoral candidate. His campaign manager (Bobby Cannavale) sees instant surges in the polls when pictures of Will saving Annie hit the internet. He, along with Will's right hand woman Grace (Rose Byrne), arrange for Annie to come and stay with Will for a while to help him appear more human as he continues his run for Mayor. Will Annie be able to melt Will's heart? Will he win the election? Will he start to enjoy life?

This is a musical. Quvenzhane is a decent singer. She is still young enough that her cuteness is a big help and she is a great little actress. Jamie Foxx can also carry a tune. Everyone else had to rely on serious auto-tune. Cameron Diaz seemed almost miscast, although she can be funny. Anyway, the movie is harmless and the kids in the theatre all seemed to like it just fine. It might get a little tedious for adults. An average remake.
