Oren Little (Michael Douglas) is a grumpy, mean-spirited realtor who is unpleasant to everyone since his wife died. Leah (Diane Keaton), his next-door neighbor, has dreams of a singing career since her husband died. They have nothing in common. One day, Oren's estranged son shows up and drops off his daughter Sarah, Oren's granddaughter, as he heads off to serve a prison sentence. Of course, Oren didn't even know he had a granddaughter and he has no love for children. Leah instantly takes to the girl and Oren is happy to let her step in and help out. Will Sarah finally warm Oren's heart and bring the neighbors closer together?
Of course. This movie wasn't warmly received by the critics. It is pretty predicatable and by the numbers. But, I still like Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton and there are plenty of laughs and enjoyable moments to be had just watching them together in a movie. If you want a good rental for a dreary afternoon, this is a decent choice.
