Jennifer Connelly is Nana, the single mother of two sons. The youngest is Gully and he is terminally ill. The older son is Ivan and he feels unloved and neglected because all of his mother's attention is focused on Gully. He has learned the tradecraft of Falconry from his grandfather and he spends all of his time with his pet Falcon. When Nana hears of a healer in Manitoba Canada, she takes the boys on the long and arduous journey to try to save Gully. There is a mishap with the Falcon and later Nana comes to learn that she has been bestowed with the healing power. She is unable to heal Gully, but now spends even more time with strangers. A tragedy causes Nana to leave her older son and embark on her own journey. For 20 years Ivan (now Cillian Murphy) has no contact with her. Until a reporter with a possible hidden agenda, Jannia (Mélanie Laurent), decides to do a story on her. She tracks Ivan down to help her find Nana. He is very reluctant but finally decides that it is time to face her. They travel over the frozen tundra of Manitoba to find Nana. Maybe Ivan will finally be able to overcome the past demons that have haunted him for the last 20 years.

On paper this sounded interesting. It is partly told in flashback so it takes a little while to understand the dynamic between all of the characters. The healing part is cloaked in mystery, filmed through the trees with lots of hushed voices. It is left very vague so you never know what is really going on. So, overall, the movie wasn't bad, it was just slow and parts of it were too vague. I liked it ok but it is hard to recommend when I have seen many better films. See it at a matinee.
