Walter Myers (Danny Glover) has lost Grace, his wife and the Mother of his four children. He is feeling very bereft. All he wants for Christmas is for his family to spend five days together under one roof. And, if everyone could get along, that would be a bonus. Oldest daughter Cheryl (Kimberly Elise) is married to former basketball player Lonnie (J.B. Smoove) who is a fast talker with a wandering eye. Oldest son Christian (Romany Malco) is running for Congress and even brings his campaign manager Brooks (John Michael Higgins) for the holiday, much to his wife's dismay. Younger daughter Rachel (Gabrielle Union) is still struggling, trying to raise a daughter alone and finish Law School. And youngerst son Evan, the "Accident" is a college football player with pro-potential and a pain pill problem. Can the family survive for five days without Grace's calming influence?
Overall, this is a cute movie about love, holidays and family. The cast is funny and attractive. Mo'Nique as Aunt May is particularly hilarious. She is funny no matter what she is doing. Everyone else is fine. There are funny scenes and touching scenes. This movie doesn't break any new ground and is fairly predictable. But, as the first holiday movie of 2016, it is enjoyable and funny even if it is a little noisy and messy. The language is pretty salty and there is plenty of sentiment. If you like funny and touching family films, then this might be for you.
