This is a costume drama set in 1682 France that begins by saying that there is a Ballroom in the garden at Versailles, that at least we know to be true. The rest is just a good story, I guess. Kate Winslet  is Sabine De Barra, a widow who makes her living in landscape design, an unusual career for a woman. When she is hired by Andre Le Notre (Matthias Schoenaerts), King Louis XIV's (Alan Rickman) own landscape architect, more than a little chaos ensues. She is brought in to build a water feature around an outdoor ballroom. She beats out several renowned male landscapers and that sets off the gossip at Court, as she is an unknown and a woman. As she proves her ability, she and Le Notre become romantically entangled and she becomes friends with the King.

This is a nice little movie. I always like Kate Winslet. She does a great job and she has to be out in the elements, muddy and hauling plants and things a lot. Alan Rickman is great as the King and he also directs the film.  The scenery is fantastic and it is always interesting to see how things might have been done in 1682. A nice diversion for a hot afternoon. Go see it.
