Nathan (Asa Butterfield) is a brilliant but autistic boy. He has trouble relating to others, particularly his warm and loving mother Julie (Sally Hawkins). When it is discovered that he is particularly brilliant at "maths", he is taken under the wing of his gruff and ornery teacher Mr. Humphreys (Rafe Spall), who also suffers from MS. Together they work to prepare Nathan for the Math Olympiad, but more importantly they both blossom as their unusual frienship grows. They both learn more than "maths" as they prepare for the competition and Nathan begins to spread his wings out into the real world.
I really liked this movie. It is definitely a small, indie film. But, it has a great cast. It is a sweet and loving look at a Mother's difficult relationship with her autistic son. And, it is funny and touching. I thought everyone did a great job and I was really rooting for Nathan to spread his wings. Go see it!
