Runs 106 minutes

In 1976, an Air France plane was hijacked by two Germans, Wilfried Bose (Daniel Bruhl) and Bridgette Kuhlmann (Rosamund Pike) (part of the Baader Meinhof complex) and some Palestinian sympathizers. The plane was directed to Entebbe, Uganda where Idi Amin (Nonso Anozie) gave them sanctuary to hold their hostages until Israel met their demands. After much debate between Israel's Prime Minister Rabin (Lior Ashkenazie) and his defense secretary Shimon Peres (Eddie Marsan), an elite commando force was sent into Entebbe to rescue the hostages. The rest in history.

From a historical perspective, this is a fascinating movie. It is amazing how easy it was to hijack an airplane in 1976. And it was so interesting to watch the behind the scenes discussion of how to handle the whole situation. The Israeli tradition is never negotiate with terrorists. The rest of the movie was just so-so. It was never really clear why the Germans were involved in the first place. And, we never really understood the rest of the terrorists either. But, the film is based on historical fact and it is a serviceable re-enactment of the hijacking and hostage situation. For students of history, this is an interesting look back at an international incident that is still relevant today. So, it is definitely worth seeing. It just could have been a little better.
